Jim's background is in acrylic, watercolor and pen-n-ink illustration and over the last twenty years he has been concentrating on Western Photography.

Having a life-long passion for history has come in handy for his artwork, not to mention the 70 plus numerous films on which Jim has worked,  including the following:

"Dances with Wolves", "Far and Away", "Gettysburg", "Geronimo", "Crazy Horse",
"Rough Riders", "Ride with the Devil", "Skins",  "Hidalgo"and  "National Treasure".

Jim also worked on a large number of documentaries - his  most proud  production,

PHOTOGRAPHY:   What Jim's friends and associates are saying........   " Jim Hatzell is known as the Western Artist's Artist and Historian.    Jim is a painter, an artist himself, knowing that attention to detail and authenticity are what make a photograph draw you back into time - back into that particular historical moment where a story unfolds.    - 'Jim's photographic stage is set to replicate a moment in time'   with 100's of 1,000's of photographs from which to choose.   Jim publishes the most sought after Western photography in the world."

FILM  PRODUCTION:   Twenty years as a working professional photographer, James Hatzell is very experienced in the development, production and authentication of 70 plus Hollywood and European western movies and historical documentaries  - while providing detailed, authenticated realism in each and every filming .   Jim provides authentic costumes, weapons and props, while being able to procure site locations, models, extras, wranglers and a wide variety of livestock to fit any movie, documentary and/or commercial requirement(s).

   Jim's motto:
"It doesn't cost any more to make a bad movie than it does to produce a quality film
( one based on historical fact and authenticity ) !"
